History
Starting with one employee and manual equipment, Mod Tech Industries, Inc. (MTI) was founded in 1984 in Cecil, Wisconsin by James R. Lacy. As a producer of high precision machined components, MTI is classified as a "production machine shop". Due to rapid growth, in 1988 MTI moved its plant and offices to a larger 12,000 sq. ft. building in Shawano, Wisconsin. With 16 full time employees and six Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines, along with various other supporting equipment, MTI now had the look of a true "company".
In October 1994, MTI once again moved, this time to the recently developed Shawano Area Industrial Park. This move involved the construction of a new 25,000 sq. ft. facility located on a 9 acre parcel. With the additional operating room, MTI was able to greatly enhance their Quality Control System. As a result, MTI received ISO certification of their Quality Management System in 2001. In 2002, 2012, and 2016 MTI expanded yet again, this time to the 120,000 sq. ft. facility where it remains today.
This steady growth has allowed MTI sales to grow as well, from $360,000 in 1988 to over $8,000,000 in 2013. As both a tier 1 and tier 2 supplier to OEM's in the marine, hydraulic, truck, bus, railroad, agriculture, heavy equipment, material handling groups, etc., MTI has positioned itself as a World Class Supplier. MTI is focusing on "one stop responsibility" by adding value services for casting and forging placement along with sub-assembly work and inventory management strategies.
Through this evolution, we are achieving our original purpose of our 1994 expansion which was to provide a facility and business structure capable to successfully supply Original Equipment Manufacturers of world class status and capitalize on the trend of larger companies to outsource capitol intensive machining to specialists like Mod Tech Industries, Inc.
